Are you familiar with the word “Kuroshio”?
The Kuroshio Current, which flows near the coast of Japan, is one of the world’s major warm currents. This stable, warm ocean current not only has a major impact on the environment along the coast of Japan, but also has a major impact on the weather and climate on land, shaping Japan’s warm climate.
It is no exaggeration to say that the Kuroshio Current influences the lives of all living things in Japan.
The Kuroshio Biological Research Institute, a public interest incorporated foundation, was established in April 2000 with the aim of collecting, organizing, and disseminating a wide range of information on the environment and living things in the Kuroshio Current basin in order to clarify the relationship between the environment created by the Kuroshio Current and the organisms that live there.
We carry out various activities at the Kuroshio Biological Research Institute, a marine research institute opened in Otsuki Town, Kochi Prefecture, on the southwestern tip of Shikoku.
(The Kuroshio Biological Research Institute, a public interest incorporated foundation, is run with donations from many supporters.)
