The Kuroshio Biological Research Institute serves as a hub for gathering and sharing information about the surrounding marine ecosystem. It also conducts research and surveys commissioned by the national and prefectural governments, local governments, and other research institutes. The Institute is deeply committed to education and public outreach, publishing research findings, hosting lectures on biodiversity and the environment, and organizing outdoor observation events and summer programs for elementary school students. The Institute also welcomes external researchers with an aim for interdisciplinary collaboration.
