We offer yearly research grants from Kuroshio Biological Institute, depending on funding.
1. Purpose
At the Kuroshio Biological Institute, we provide research grants for students and researchers seeking funds with the aim of nurturing the next generation of researchers and those who are closely connected to the local community. This grant system was established in 2005, and we have provided grants to a total of 77 people so far. Since many of the applicants so far have been applying for a grant system for the first time, we aim to reduce the number of complicated accounting procedures and conditions regarding research content, etc., so that students can easily use it as a research grant. We are looking to fund about three applications this year, so please apply.
2. Target of Grant
As long as the research is in line with the purpose of our institute, the applicant’s status, location of the research, and research field are not important. However, those with profit-making purposes are not eligible.
3. Eligibility
Graduate thesis students, research students, students in specialized courses, graduate students, and other general researchers.
*Students must be recommended by their supervisor.
*Researchers without a supervisor must have one recommender.
4. Eligible expenses
Expenses directly necessary for research, such as equipment and supplies used in experiments and surveys, materials, travel expenses required for surveys, and facility and equipment usage fees, are eligible for the grant. Remuneration for research collaborators and assistants can be included, but anything considered a salary is not eligible for the grant. It is acceptable to use a combination of laboratory research funds and other grants for the research applied for, but you must provide a rough breakdown of the overall research expenses and show evidence that the research will be carried out reliably.
5. Grant scale
Up to 200,000 yen per project. Approximately 3 projects.
6. Grant period
In principle, for 1 year
9. Grant Payment
The grant for selected research will be transferred to the applicant’s designated bank account by early July.
10. Obligations of Grant Recipients
○Please ensure that the research is carried out within the specified period according to the content of the grant application.
○If there are any changes to the content, period, or use of the grant due to unavoidable circumstances, please obtain the Institute’s approval in advance.
○If you present the results of your research grant at an academic conference or publish a paper, etc., please clearly indicate that you received a grant from the Foundation. Please send a reprint of the published paper, etc., to the Foundation.
○ After the grant period ends, you will be asked to submit a report outlining your research in the format specified by the Institute. The report will be published on the Institute’s website.
○ We may ask you to contribute an article on the content of your funded research to the Institute’s journal “Current” or journal “Kuroshio Biosphere”.
